ABOUT US

It all started with a small box of Lego on a Saturday afternoon in London in the early 1980s, I was instantly hooked. There were bricks, and windows, and doors, and just about anything could be constructed given enough imagination! I was 3 and my parents unknowingly set me on course to becoming a Building Surveyor with this one small act.

Fast forward a lot of Lego, meccano and tinkering with real building materials and I somehow have renovated 4 conversion properties (church, oast house, Victorian school and a barn), qualified as a Building Surveyor and now get to spend my days doing what I love ….. taking the dog for long walks (ok, that’s the weekends) … but seriously, I get to be a Residential Building Surveyor in the West Country with all the wonderful properties this beautiful area has to offer.

Now I could tell you I am the best, quickest or cheapest or some other blurb that is hard to quantify, but looks good on a website….. but I won’t and I’ll tell you why:

I am not the cheapest, or fastest, surveyor because I do things slow and steady. I stop and ponder and double check and often ponder some more. I’m looking at the whole building for you, I’m not ticking boxes to rush to the next job to meet a corporate quota. In fact I only survey one property a day as I like to keep a clear head, I generally then write up your report the next day. That’s it really. I like simple and transparent. Ok, I also answer the phone and occasionally do family stuff during the week but I’m a practising surveyor and you’ll likely find me stuck in the far end of someone’s loft if you call about 11am (fair warning!).

I am straight talking and will tell you how it is, to me that is being the best surveyor I can be. Why get a survey done if you don’t want to know what the surveyor has found? The idea is for me to view your intended purchase without your rose tinted spectacles, and that’s why this website is monochrome, because not everything in this world is ‘black and white’ but also rose tinted…..especially with buildings.

I will try to help you understand your intended property purchase after spending a good amount of time looking at it in detail for you.

I am happy to chat on the phone post visit to give an overview and then do the same after you get the survey report too.

I am local, I practice in the area I live in, I understand the vernacular style of and conducted all my training in.

When you are ready to book a survey, or to discuss a party wall matter, please contact Kate (Office Manager) or myself and we will be happy to help.
